Police: Victim in fatal East Moriches head-on crash identified

Police have released the identity of the SUV driver killed Friday in a head-on collision with a pickup truck on Montauk Highway in East Moriches.
The victim is Nilda Jewell, 56, Suffolk County police said. Her address was unknown.
Police said Jewell was driving a 2011 Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicle westbound on Montauk Highway at 8:40 p.m. when she crossed over the double-yellow line -- colliding with a 2003 Ford pickup truck driven by Dylan Hughes, 24, of East Moriches. Hughes was traveling with his 6-month-old daughter, who was in the backseat.
Hughes sustained minor injuries, but his daughter was unharmed, according to police.Both were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.
Police said that after the impact the Jeep burst into flames and that Jewell died at the crash scene, which was near Bay Avenue.
