Police: Woman hit outside vehicle in crash

A female driver involved in a rear-end crash was hit after leaving her vehicle by another car passing the accident scene late Thursday on the Sagtikos Parkway in Brentwood, State Police said.

The woman was conscious and alert at the scene but had abrasions to her head and legs, police said.

She was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for evaluation but her injuries were deemed non-life-threatening by emergency medical technicians.

The first accident happened at about 10 p.m., when one vehicle rear-ended another on the southbound Sagtikos near Crooked Hill Road, police said.

A car passing the vehicles -- stopped on the left side of the parkway -- switched to the right lane to avoid the accident scene and was then also struck from behind, police said.

When the passing car was rear-ended, it struck the female, police said.

Two other drivers -- one from each accident -- were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for minor injuries, police said.

Southbound lanes of the parkway were closed for about an hour while crews removed the cars, police said.
