State transportation officials announced that Sunrise Highway near the Southern State/Heckscher Parkway Bridge in Islip will be closed to nighttime travel night to accommodate renovations to the span starting Monday night.

Eastbound lanes on Route 27 in that area will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday and westbound lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Officials said that motorists will be detoured to service roads.

The closures are part of a $7.6 million rehabilitation of the bridge, officials said. It is expected to be completed by summer 2015. Officials said the closures are also subject to the weather.

"For real-time travel information, motorists should call 511 or visit www.511NY.org, New York State's official traffic and travel information source," officials said. "Motorists may also obtain travel information from the INFORM Transportation Management Center cameras at www.INFORMNY.com and on their hand held communication devices at www.INFORMNY.mobi."
