A motorist was charged with reckless driving and misdemeanor drug possession after he hit and seriously injured a mail carrier on a street in North Babylon, police said.

Stefano Belloisi, 51, of John Place in Deer Park was awaiting arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Central Islip, Suffolk County police said.

Police did not say what the drug he possessed.

The unidentified postal worker was not in his vehicle when he was hit on Prairie Drive by Belloisi’s 1998 Lincoln Continental, which was headed west at 1:57 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Belloisi declined medical care after his car hit the worker and collided with the U.S. postal truck, a fire hydrant and a telephone pole after he veered off the road, police said.

The 40-year-old postal worker, a Bayport resident, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center and was admitted with serious injuries, police said.
