Pregnant woman dies in Bridgehampton crash

A pregnant Bridgehampton woman and her fetus died Wednesday when her car sideswiped a tree and then hit another tree head-on off Bridgehampton Sag Harbor Turnpike, Southampton Town police said.

Michelle Forbes-Greaves, 31, was driving a 2001 Saturn south on County Road 79 in Bridgehampton about 8:02 a.m. when she crossed into the northbound lane and then ran into the two trees, police said.

Police and rescue personnel from the Bridgehampton Fire Department responded, and Forbes-Greaves was removed from the vehicle by workers using hydraulic cutting tools, police said.

Forbes-Greaves and her 8-month-old fetus were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The accident closed a portion of Bridgehampton Sag Harbor Turnpike for about three hours, police said.

Police said the investigation was continuing and they have not determined what caused the accident.
