Detectives are investigating the death of an East Northport man who killed himself Wednesday after calling police and barricading himself in his home, police said.

The unidentified man, 64, "called police at 9:29 a.m. to say he was suicidal and concerned for the welfare of his mother," who lived with him at their Kalmia Street home, Suffolk County police said in a news release.

Officers from the Second Precinct, the Hostage Negotiation Team and the Emergency Service Section responded.

"Emergency Service officers determined that it was safe to enter the home approximately three hours after the initial call," the news release said.

Police determined that the man, who was found dead in his bed, had committed suicide.

His mother was inside the house and not harmed, police said.

No further details were immediately provided.
