PSEG: Power restored to more than 1,000 customers after car knocked down utility pole

Eatons Neck Road is expected to reopen to traffic in both directions Thursday after a single-car crash knocked down a utility pole in Eatons Neck, at one point cutting electricity to more than 1,000 customers, a PSEG Long Island spokeswoman said.

Elizabeth Flagler of the utility company said all customers were restored to power nine hours after the crash at 9:52 p.m. Wednesday near North Creek Road.

She said workers expect to complete repairs by 3 p.m. Thursday.

The driver of the car, a woman, had minor injuries, Suffolk County police said.

Flagler said the downed utility pole had transformers and wires and immediately left 1,010 customers without electricity. Workers restored 587 customers to power in 50 minutes; the rest were fully restored in about nine hours, she said.

She said the pole also included cable and telephone wires.

"All customers have power, but we still need to complete permanent repairs," Flagler said shortly before noon Thursday.

For several hours, Eatons Neck was closed in both directions. Police said one lane of the road opened at about 8 a.m. Thursday.

Flagler said traffic is able to move in both directions, but one lane will remain closed until "all repairs are complete."
