Power was restored to 585 Fire Island PSEG customers Saturday night after a high voltage tap burned on Ivy Walk in the Cherry Grove section.

The electric equipment initially knocked power out to 216 customers at 7:37 p.m., PSEG Long Island spokesman Jeffrey Weir said in an email.

Crews had to take another 369 customers off the power grid at 8:53 p.m. so technicians could safely work on electrical equipment, Weir said. Power was restored to all customers by 9:35 p.m. The cause of the burned power equipment is under investigation, Weir said.
