A Queens man was seriously injured Monday after he struck a tree and his car caught fire in Hauppauge, police said.

MD Karim, 48, of Jamaica, was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry eastbound on Oser Avenue when he lost control of the car and struck a tree near Plant Avenue around 3:30 p.m., Suffolk County police said in a news release.

The vehicle caught fire, but it was extinguished by a Good Samaritan, police said. Four other people occupied the car, and they were all co-workers commuting to work, police said.

Passenger Faruk Omar, 26, of Jamaica, Queens, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was treated for serious non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The other occupants in Karim's vehicle were taken to local hospitals where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are continuing to investigate. The Camry was impounded for a safety check.
