Long Island will see some rain and gusty wind Tuesday - the first day of the hurricane season, according to the National Weather Service.

Between a tenth of an inch and a quarter-inch of rain is expected to fall Tuesday. The bad weather, which also includes a slight risk of isolated thunderstorms, will continue through midnight. Most of the thunderstorms will be in New Jersey and the Hudson Valley area, meteorologist Matt Scalora said.

A small craft advisory was also issued. The gusts are producing 15- to 20-knot winds on the water, and waves could reach between three to five feet. Five feet or higher is the criteria for issuing a small craft advisory, Scalora said.

Temperatures will stay around 80 degrees all day, cooler toward Montauk Point and coastal areas. Wednesday will be sunny and dry, also high in the lower 80s.

This summer's Atlantic hurricane forecast is expected to be higher than usual, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. NOAA is predicting up to 14 hurricanes this season and expects three to seven of those storms to be major hurricanes.
