We've had a heat wave and a long, dry spell.

But this weekend, get ready for some rain. Lots and lots of rain, forecasters say.

The National Weather Service is calling for a chance of showers and thunderstorms beginning Friday night, followed by a strong chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday after 1 p.m.

It's supposed to rain Monday, too. After a brief respite Monday, the weather service is predicting rain Tuesday and Wednesday as well.

How much rain we can expect is anyone's guess.

But we've have little significant rainfall on Long Island in about a month.

The temperature at 8:30 a.m. Friday was hovering around 80 degrees, a welcome break from days in the 90s and even in the 100s in the metropolitan area.

However, the humidity is at 82 percent, winds are light and the air is thick and heavy.

Forecasters predict a 20 percent chance of rain Friday. That increases to 70 percent on Saturday. High temperatures Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be in the low to mid-80s. Lows will be around 70.
