An accidental fire at a Shirley home injured three people and several rescuers, Suffolk police said Saturday night.

All were treated for smoke inhalation and other non-life-threatening injures, a police department spokesman said.

The cause of the 5:30 p.m. fire, on Van Buren Street, was still being investigated, the spokesman said.

The injured, including a police officer and firefighters, were taken to hospitals; their conditions were not immediately available.
