A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case of the wheelchair stolen from an Iraq War veteran in Holbrook, police said Wednesday.
The chair, built for Christopher Levi after he lost both legs in a roadside bombing in March 2008, was taken from outside his home on Mollie Boulevard last Thursday between 5 and 5:45 p.m.
The chair is blue with an embroidered Purple Heart on it, as well as a U.S. Army seal and various military stickers.
Suffolk County police ask anyone with information regarding the theft to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS or text police at CRIMES.
All calls will remain confidential, police said.
Meanwhile, officials said Levi was measured for a new wheelchair Monday, after Rep. Steve Israel (D-Dix Hills) promised to help expedite the process for the war vet.
A spokeswoman for Israel said the congressman is working with the Veterans Affairs office in Northport to make sure Levi receives his chair "as soon as possible."
For now, he has a loaner.
