Rip current risk on South Shore
A rip current advisory is in effect for South Shore beaches in Nassau and Suffolk counties, the National Weather service said Monday.
The Upton-based service warned of stronger rip currents through Monday evening on all Atlantic Ocean facing beaches, including the beaches in Kings and Queens counties.
The service called the rip current risk "moderate" and also said surf waves could be up to 3 feet high.
Those who might enter the water under the these conditions should "talk to lifeguards and beach officials to learn about any surf hazards and heed their advice," the service said.
