Riverhead Auto Mall fire being investigated, police say
Riverhead Town police are seeking information about a fire that erupted at a car dealership late Friday.
Police officers and firefighters from the Riverhead Fire Department were called to Riverhead Auto Mall on Old Country Road just before 11 p.m. after a report of a small fire on the building’s west side, according to a news release issued by the police department.
Firefighters extinguished flames on several wooden pallets, police said. During the blaze, the rear ends of a 2017 Hyundai Elantra and a 2013 Nissan van — both owned by the dealership — were damaged.
A voice message left at the dealership Saturday morning was not immediately returned.
The Riverhead fire marshal and Suffolk County police arson squad are assisting in the investigation, Riverhead police said. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
