Riverhead hearing on energy benchmarking Wednesday

A public hearing on a proposal to institute municipal building energy benchmarking in town-operated buildings in Riverhead will be on the agenda at the Riverhead Town Board meeting Wednesday.

The public will have a chance to comment as the board considers passing a local law to add a new chapter into the town code with provisions that would measure and track energy consumption and usage in town-owned buildings over time as a method to cut energy costs for those buildings.

The board had previously discussed the energy benchmark proposal in May.

Southampton, Southold and East Hampton have already been listed as part of the 13 Long Island communities the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority has designated as Clean Energy Communities.

Also on the agenda will be motions to appoint several recreation positions, including seasonal assistant beach managers, call-in recreation specialists, a lifeguard, a water safety instructor and call-in bus drivers.
