Riverhead man accused of stealing TVs

A man stopped for allegedly speeding on Dune Road was charged with stealing two televisions from a home in West Hampton Dunes, police said Monday.
State Police said Melvin Herrera, 22, of Riverhead, was arrested Oct. 1 on charges of second-degree burglary. He faces arraignment in West Hampton Dunes Justice Court.
Police said West Hampton Dunes bay constables stopped Herrera after spotting his Nissan Maxima speeding on Dune Road at about 10 p.m. on Oct. 1. During questioning, officers noticed two large televisions inside the vehicle, police said.
During subsequent questioning by State Police, Herrera admitted to stealing the TVs from a home in the dunes, police said. The value of the televisions was not disclosed.
