Riverhead man charged in rape of girl, 11
A 23-year-old Riverhead man is under arrest, charged with raping an 11-year-old girl in the Riverhead area, police said.
Riverhead Town police said Rufino Martinez-Ortiz was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with first-degree rape. It was not clear how Martinez-Ortiz came into contact with the victim or when and where the alleged rape occurred.
The girl was not identified both because she is a minor and a victim of an alleged sex crime.
Police said an investigation "revealed that he [Martinez-Ortiz] had previously had forcible intercourse" with the girl. He is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday.
