A Riverhead man is under arrest, charged with raping an 11-year-old girl in the Riverhead area, police said.

Riverhead Town police said Rufino Martinez-Ortiz, 23, was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with first-degree rape. It was not clear how Martinez-Ortiz came into contact with the victim or when and where the alleged rape was.

The girl was not identified because she is a minor and a victim of an alleged sex crime.

Police said an investigation revealed that Martinez-Ortiz "had previously had forcible intercourse" with the girl.

Martinez-Ortiz is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday.
