Two men working at a construction site fell into a hole while trying to install a septic system and one worker needed help escaping, Riverhead Town police said Friday.

The incident happened at 3 p.m. near Doctors Path, police said. One man freed himself from the hole while the other man became trapped waist deep in sand.

Authorities were able to free the second man. He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, treated, then released, police said.

Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.
