Two Riverhead men were arrested and charged with drug possession following a traffic stop in Riverhead Monday, police said.

State Police arrested Brian D. Sadeli and Michael R. Minnick, both 28, following the stop for a traffic violation on Main Street at 10:10 p.m., police said.

Both were released and given appearance tickets, police said.

Police said that during the stop, a trooper detected "a strong odor of marijuana" coming from the vehicle, according to a release.

Police said Sadeli had a small amount of marijuana, as well as OxyContin and hydrocodone. He was charged with fourth-degree and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, as well as unlawful possession of marijuana.

Minnick was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, police said.
