Motorcyclist, 22, killed in collision with pickup in Riverhead

A motorcyclist who collided with a pickup truck Tuesday morning in Riverhead was later pronounced dead at a hospital, the town police said.
Ismael Santiago Basantez-Ramon, 22, was driving a 2022 CFMoto north on Cross River Drive when he struck a pickup turning left from Union Avenue onto the same road, police said in a news release. The time of the collision was not included in the release, which said officers arrived at the scene about 7:57 a.m.
Basantez-Ramon was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The pickup truck driver was transported to the same hospital for treatment and later released.
The police department did not say where Basantez-Ramon lived.
Riverhead police detectives and the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Team are conducting an investigation into the crash, the release said. Investigators believe the cause was not criminal in nature.
