Riverhead pedestrian hit by vehicle, seriously injured, cops say
A pedestrian was airlifted to the hospital after being struck by a pickup truck Thursday in Riverhead, police said.
Joseph Mannino, 47, of Riverhead, was crossing Old Country Road west of Ostrander Avenue just before 9:15 a.m. when he was hit by a westbound GMC driven by Albert L. Pertillar, 61, of Riverhead, Riverhead Town police said.
Mannino was flown to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.
Pertillar’s GMC pickup truck was impounded for a safety check, police said.
Detectives are investigating with help from the state police accident reconstruction unit.
