A male driver crashed into his own garage and was airlifted to a hospital Wednesday afternoon, Riverhead police said.

It was not immediately clear why the man, 74, slammed into his home on Golden Spruce Drive at about 4:30 p.m., police said.

He was taken first to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, then flown to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said. Details on the victim’s condition were not released.

Detectives remained at the scene Wednesday evening to gather information on the crash, including whether the driver had a medical emergency.

No one else was injured, police said.
