A single-car crash killed a Northport man on his way to work early Monday, Suffolk County police said.

Gregory Kelly, 42, was driving a 2013 Honda Civic southbound on Old Commack Road in Commack at about 7 a.m. when he lost control and hit a tree, according to police.

Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash occurred on Old Commack Road, just south of Old Northport Road.

The cause of the crash is being investigated, Suffolk Police Lt. Tom O'Hare said.

A woman who answered a number listed for Kelly declined to comment.

The crash investigation closed Old Commack Road between Old Northport Road and Pinetree Court for several hours.

Police said the car was impounded for a safety check.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
