Ongoing construction work on the Long Island Expressway around the intersection of Route 110 near the Nassau-Suffolk county line will cause some overnight lane closures until Sept. 24, according to the state Department of Transportation.
All eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway, I-495, may be closed in Huntington at Exit 49 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and one westbound lane may be closed in Huntington between Pinelawn Road and Walt Whitman Road, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Work during daylight this week may also spark closure of the LIE service road between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Huntington between Pinelawn Road and Walt Whitman Road.
The work on the expressway and the interchange at Route 110, also called Walt Whitman Road, involves raising the overpass and widening it from two to three lanes. Posillico Civil, a Farmingdale company, is doing the work.
Work is expected to be completed in the fall at an estimated cost of $29 million.
