Cops: Man charged with drunken boating in Greenport; 2 injured
A Shelton, Conn. man operated a power boat while intoxicated and crashed into a breakwater jetty in the waters off Greenport on Friday night, injuring himself and a female passenger, Southold Town police said.
Robert Skinner, 46, was charged with boating while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and was to be arraigned on Saturday.
Skinner was operating a 1999 24-foot Rinker power boat about 9:30 p.m. when police said he struck the jetty, causing the vessel to abruptly stop and take on water.
Skinner and his passenger, Lisa Servido, 46, also of Shelton, Conn., boarded a second boat and were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport for injuries they sustained in the accident. Police did not identify the nature of those injuries.
The boat was temporarily secured to the jetty because of weather concerns.
