The Rocky Point school district has canceled activities and events this weekend after a threat was written on a bathroom stall at the middle school.

Suffolk County police said Seventh Precinct officers are investigating the "threatening language" discovered Friday. Specific details were not released.

Superintendent Michael F. Ring wrote in messages posted on the district's website that the threat referenced Saturday's date. He said school security and police patrols will be increased at the high school and middle school over the weekend.

"While these matters have become all too commonplace in our society, it is of the utmost importance that we take these threats seriously, as the health and safety of our students and staff is our first priority," Ring said in his statement.
