A Porsche driver flipped his SUV onto a retaining wall near Islip Town Hall, then fled, minutes after a traffic stop in North Babylon early Tuesday, police said.
Suffolk County Police said the driver of the Porche Cayenne sport utility vehicle, whose identity was not released, was stopped by an officer minutes before the 2 a.m. crash.
Police could not immediately say why they stopped the car.
A short time later, officers responding to an accident scene in Islip found the Porsche overturned near a monument on Main Street and the driver missing, police said. It was not clear if anyone was hurt in the crash. The Porsche was impounded, police said.
