A broken rail prompted a temporary service change Wednesday on the Ronkonkoma Branch, the Long Island Rail Road said.

Buses replaced trains for about three hours between Ronkonkoma and Central Islip beginning at about 10:30 a.m. while crews worked to repair a broken rail east of Central Islip.

The LIRR said in a service alert just after 1 p.m. that the 1:30 p.m. train from Central Islip due Ronkonkoma at 1:37 p.m. and the 2:11 p.m. train from Ronkonkoma due Penn Station at 3:33 p.m. would be the first trains to operate between Central Islip and Ronkonkoma after repairs were completed.

During the earlier service disruption, westbound trains originated and eastbound trains terminated at Central Islip.
