A Ronkonkoma man died early Sunday morning after the car in which he was a passenger hit a pillar and a tree in Commack before overturning, police said.

Steven Sarvis, 32, was pronounced dead at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown after the 1:55 a.m. crash, Suffolk police said.

The driver, Patrick J. McMahon, 48, of Commack, was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

A second passenger, who was not identified, self-transported to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

McMahon was driving west on Dovecote Lane near Dana Lane in a 2018 Infiniti Q60 when he lost control, police said. The car struck a driveway pillar and a tree before overturning and ending up on the front lawn of a home, police said.

McMahon was treated at Huntington Hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries, police said. He will be arraigned at a later date. An attorney for McMahon could not be immediately reached.
