Suffolk County police said a 19-year-old Islip man who was driving a 2016 Toyota Avalon was transported in critical condition to Stony Brook University Hospital. Two passengers in his vehicle — identified only as a 19-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man — were both transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for what police said were treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A 19-year-old Ronkonkoma woman who was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler and her two passengers — an 18-year-old woman and 22-year-old man — were all taken to Stony Brook for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Police said  the Toyota was parked on the northbound shoulder of Ocean Avenue, just north of Peconic Street, when the driver attempted a U-turn into the southbound lanes and was struck by the northbound Jeep at about 8:45 p.m. Additional details were not immediately available. No one has been charged.

Police said both vehicles were impounded for a safety check.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call Fifth Squad detectives at 631-854-8552.
