Suffolk County police have deemed a suspicious package safe after using a robot to examine it outside a Ronkonkoma home.

The call came in at 1:05 p.m., and police remained on scene at the Beaver Lane residence for more than two hours. They used the robot to inspect the package, which was discarded on a resident’s property earlier in the day.

The box was rendered safe by 2:47 p.m., a police spokeswoman said.

Beaver Lane, closed between Hawthorne and Pamlico avenues as the investigation unfolded, has since reopened.

Authorities did not have any additional information about the package itself.
