An elderly woman who got locked out of her car during a trip to a grocery store in Ronkonkoma Thursday evening was struck by a vehicle as she walked home to her nearby apartment, Suffolk police said.

The 80-year-old unidentified woman was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center in critical but stable condition.

Police said the woman got locked out of her car at the Super Stop & Shop on Portion Road and was heading to her Hans Boulevard home around 6:24 p.m. when she was hit.
