Firefighters from five different departments battled a blaze at a Bay Shore broom and brush manufacturer for more than four hours early Friday, authorities said.

Rob Kuehn, Brentwood fire marshal, said firefighters were still attending to a fire at the commercial building that houses Culicover & Shapiro Inc., a maker of janitorial brooms and brushes.

Kuehn said the roof of the building, which also houses an auto-body repair shop, collapsed, making it more difficult to completely extinguish the fire.

"They're attending to the last remnants of it right now," Kuehn said shortly after 9:30 a.m. from the site of the fire.

Kuehn said other departments at the scene included West Islip, North Babylon, Islip and Wyandanch.

He said heavy equipment was called in from the Town of Islip to attend to the roof collapse, which also slowed firefighters some.

One firefighter had a minor neck injury and was treated and released at the scene, Kuehn said.

There were no other injuries.

The building was unoccupied when the fire started, and Kuehn said it does not appear the blaze is suspicious in nature.

He said Suffolk County's Arson Squad was planning to investigate.

The building is in a commercial area, south of Long Island Avenue and west of the Sagtikos Parkway.
