Route 110 reopens after truck ensnares wires
Officials said northbound Route 110 was reopened just before 11 a.m. Wednesday, hours after being closed when tractor-trailer truck became entangled in low-lying wires near Ruland Road in Melville.
The incident occurred at about 5:10 a.m. and caused Suffolk County police to close the road at Smith Street.
Police said the truck snared wires that had been partially downed by superstorm Sandy and then became ensnared in those wires, which were both electrical and telephone wires.
The driver was not injured but was stuck in the truck cab because the wires were electrified, police said. The road was closed until LIPA emergency crews could reach the scene, de-energize the wires and make repairs, police said.
