An early morning collision on Route 112 in Coram left a motorcyclist dead Friday, Suffolk County police said.

Police identified the victim only as a 36-year-old man and said his name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin. He was transported to Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the motorcyclist was headed north on a 2006 Harley-Davidson when he was involved in a collision with a 2019 Hyundai Accent headed south on Route 112. Police said the crash was not a head-on collision, but said details of the investigation were still emerging and didn't characterize the crash further.

The crash, which occurred at the intersection of Glenmere Lane, was reported in a 911 call at 4:12 a.m., police said.

Route 112 was closed in both directions between Pine Road and Colby Drive until about 8:30 a.m. for an accident investigation conducted by Crime Scene detectives, police said. Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check and police said the driver of the Accent had not been charged.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the accident to call Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652. All calls will remain confidential.
