Route 25 at Terry Road in Smithtown was reopened Friday afternoon after being closed in both directions for nearly 12 hours following a car accident that brought down power lines, officials said.
Suffolk County police said a single-vehicle accident at 2:19 a.m. Friday brought down the wires.
The driver of a Dodge pickup truck lost control on eastbound Route 25, struck the utility pole and overturned the vehicle, bringing down the lines, police said.
LIPA spokesman Mark Gross said repair crews were at the scene and were likely to have the utility lines repaired by midafternoon. He could not be specific about a time.
"The downed wires are at what is called a junction pole, and there was some collateral damage to some other poles," Gross said. "Once our lines are up, then the other companies can complete their repairs."
Police said the road was reopened in the early afternoon.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, suffered "non-life-threatening" injuries and was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment, police said.
Charges against the driver are pending and the investigation is continuing, police said.
