A Shoreham man died in an early morning crash Monday after the car he was driving on Route 25A in Rocky Point left the roadway and hit a tree, Suffolk County police said.

Nicholas Mistretta, 24, of Highland Down, was heading eastbound at 3:45 a.m. in a 2009 Ford Focus when it hit a tree east of Broadway, police said.

Mistretta, who was alone in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Route 25A was closed in both directions between Anthony Drive and Broadway until shortly before 9 a.m., police said.

The car was impounded for a safety check, and police asked anyone with information on the crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
