Road crews are expected to begin nighttime repaving of Route 25A in Cold Spring Harbor and Huntington on Sunday.

The New York Department of Transportation said traffic on a 1.5-mile section of the road, from Lawrence Hill Road/Hillside Avenue to North Woodhull Road, will be redirected from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. to complete the work.

One travel lane in each direction will be open with one lane of alternating traffic in some areas to accommodate the project. State officials also said intermittent complete road closures are possible.

The work begins 10 p.m. on Sunday, officials said. Crews are expected to work on the road through Thursday.

Officials said the project will improve the safety of the road. The damaged top layer of pavement is being removed and replaced with new asphalt, along with fresh road paint and traffic signal vehicle detector loops.

The state DOT is advising drivers to watch for alerts on roadside signs and to either use an alternate route or expect travel delays.
