Long Island runners made their way through Caumsett State Historic Park Sunday for dual 50 kilometer and 25 kilometer races.

The 50k event, organized by the Greater Long Island Running Club and USA Track and Field, served as a qualifier for the 2015 Boston Marathon -- one of the country's most competitive marathons.

This year, some 36,000 runners will participate in the 26.2 mile Boston Marathon on April 21 -- a year after the event was marred by a bombing attack on April 15, 2013 that killed three people and injured more than 200 other racers and spectators.

Those participating in Sunday's race at the more than 1,700-acre former estate of Marshall Field III in Lloyd Neck were also eligible for cash prizes ranging from $100 to $1,500, according to the group's website.
