Suffolk County police said a male motorist, driving southbound on the William Floyd Parkway, just north of Longwood Road in Ridge, was killed when his car left the road and crashed into trees at about 6:23 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015. Credit: James Carbone

The motorist killed in a weekend crash on the William Floyd Parkway in Ridge was identified Monday as Ryan McCready, 30, of Shirley, police said.

The cause of the single-car accident remains under investigation, Suffolk County police said.

Police said McCready was headed south on the William Floyd when his car went off the road just north of Longwood Road, striking several trees.

McCready was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The time of the Saturday crash is unclear and under investigation. At 6:23 a.m., a passing motorist noticed the vehicle in the woods and notified police.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information on the crash is being asked to call Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752, police said.
