VOTING

7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Sagaponack Common School.

THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $1,772,505 budget for 2015-16, a 1.09 percent increase from the current $1,753,431.

The local tax levy would rise 2.35 percent, from $1,675,881 to $1,715,205.

The increase is within the state's tax-cap limit of 3.34 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.

School taxes on the average single-family home would decrease 3.27 percent, from $1,742.40 to $1,685.51.

The proposed budget includes a 1.5 percent salary increase for teachers and a 4.5 percent step increase.

The district did not reply to emails and telephone calls requesting further details about teacher salaries.

Current levels of programs and staffing are maintained.

A ballot proposition asks voters to authorize the district to enter into contracts with East Hampton school district for education of Sagaponack students in grades five through 12.
