The Huntington Town Board approved naming the Dr. Samuel Teich House in Huntington Station as a local historic landmark.

The building at 1090 New York Ave. was once used as the office by a doctor who delivered generations of Huntington residents.

The board voted 5-0 at its meeting last Wednesday to make the designation.

The building is used as a residence with attached office space. That is not affected by the designation, but it does prevent the building’s demolition or revisions to its exterior architecture, town officials said.

The town’s Historic Preservation Committee recommended the designation for the property, where Teich, a physician and obstetrician, worked from 1935 to 1985.

In April, Teich’s parents’ home, The Max and Rosie Teich Homestead on Academy Place, was granted historic designation by the town.
