Suffolk County police arson detectives are investigating a Thursday morning fire that destroyed an abandoned motel in Amityville on Route 110 just south of the Southern State Parkway.

The fire, reported at 10:25 a.m. at the shuttered Sayonara Motor Inn, closed Route 110 between Nathalie Avenue and Brefni  Street for hours, police said.

"Firefighters and Canine Section officers searched the building and did not find any victims," police said in a statement.
