Sayville Beach in Sayville has been closed for bathing due to bacterial levels found in excess of acceptable criteria, Suffolk County health officials said Friday in a news release.

Water quality samples taken Tuesday and Thursday were labeled "poor" in the beach advisories and closures section of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services' web site.

Asharoken Beach in Asharoken and Steers Beach in Northport have been re-opened to bathing, as recent samples show the water quality to be acceptable, the release said.

Grantland Beach and Bayberry Cove Beach in Setauket-East Setauket remain closed.

For up-to-date information on beach closings call the county's hotline at 631-852-5822 or check the web site at www.suffolkcountyny.gov/health.
