Suffolk County Community College president Shaun McKay went on vacation a day after a flap arose over whether Anne Shybunko-Moore, a businesswoman, should be removed as trustee for missing four meetings -- including one while she recorded a TV ad for Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's Start-Up NY program.

Board chairwoman Dafny Irizarry said McKay emailed trustees that he was taking vacation but didn't give a return date, and told them to contact SCCC's legal counsel for information in his absence. On Wednesday the board is to discuss retroactively ruling Shybunko-Moore's absences excused. College spokesman Drew Biondo called McKay's timing unrelated to the controversy.-- Rick Brand
