SCCC to name building for late legislator William Lindsay
Suffolk County Community College president Shaun McKay surprised the audience of 460 at a college foundation gala honoring labor by proposing that a nearly finished $28 million science building on the Selden campus be named after William Lindsay, the late legislative presiding officer.
There had just been video tributes to Lindsay, a former labor leader, and honors for other union officials. McKay called up trustees, and Lindsay's family, and asked the board's immediate approval. Board chairwoman Dafny Irizarry replied, "All in favor say, 'Aye.' " They did.
