A school bus carrying 25 children to Birchwood Elementary School struck a utility pole on Wolf Hill Road in South Huntington Friday, sending the bus driver to the hospital, police and fire officials said.
None of the kids, ages 8-10 years old, were injured.
Suffolk County police said the accident occurred at 8:57 a.m. near Melville Road.
The bus driver, a woman whose name was not released, was transported to Huntington Hospital for observation.
The children were placed on another bus and taken to school, officials said.
The road was closed as a precaution while Long Island Power Authority emergency crews assess the damage.
Melville Fire Department First Assistant Chief Michael Carrieri said the pole will likely need to be replaced. He said it had not been knocked down in the accident, but was cracked.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
