School official charged in domestic assault
An assistant principal in the William Floyd School District was arrested Wednesday in a domestic assault, police and school officials said Wednesday.
The district said in a statement that it was taking the arrest of Michael Baaden of Medford seriously and was cooperating with law enforcement.
The district's website identifies Baaden as an assistant principal at the Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School at 6 Francis Landau Place in Shirley. Police, who did not provide a home address for Baaden, gave the school address as the place where he was arrested.
"The conduct with which Mr. Baaden has been charged is domestic nature, did not occur during the work day or on school grounds, and did not involve students in any way," the school district said in a statement.
The district said Baaden "will not be permitted to return to work" as it tries to determine "what, if any, administrative action may be appropriate."
Suffolk County police said Baaden, 36, was charged with assault in the third degree, but did not provide more details.
